在SCI论文的写作过程中，常常会出现一些比较复杂的句子，为了能够使语句的意思更加紧密合理的表达出来，就需要使用一些连接词来简介语句的前后关系。能用来连接语句前后关系的词包括连接词和副词。
根据语句的前后关系，连接词可以分为7类：
因果关系；常用连接词：therefore, consequently, thus, hence, as a result, indeed等，用来对前句的内容进行总结。
并列关系；常用连接词：also, likewise, besides in addition, moreover, furthermore等，用来连接多个同等事物或特征。
相反关系；常用连接词：in contrast, but, however, yet, on the other hand, surprisingly, nevertheless, instead of等，用来描述某些设想与文献描述不符的现象或者结果。
相似关系（类似于并列关系）；常用连接词：similarly, likewise，用于表达两个功能或者结果具有相似性。
举例关系；常用连接词：for example, for instance, specifically, such as including等。
时间关系；如：later等。
顺序关系（类似于时间关系）；常用连接词：then, next, finally, first, second等。
